Like a lot of us, piano jazz phenom David Benoit grew up with the holiday television classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and its very cool soundtrack. He was particularly taken with the inventive, playful piano work that powered that soundtrack, and the man behind the keys, Vince Guaraldi, who composed and/or arranged the tunes. Now that Guaraldi’s gone—sadly, he died young at just 47—Benoit is carrying the torch in a big way, releasing several Peanuts-related projects (his version of “Linus and Lucy” is a bona fide ’80s classic) and performing the tunes live. Lucky for us, it’s coming to town on Thursday, Dec. 19, when Benoit and his quartet will devote an evening to those infectiously fun, warm and wonderful Charlie Brown Christmas tunes. And yes, Lucy, there will be a children’s chorus, too.
