La Raza Galeria Posada is moving to new, larger digs. And if that’s not enough, the nonprofit, multidisciplinary cultural center is celebrating its 40th anniversary as well. What great excuses to throw a party, and on Saturday, June 23 La Raza is doing just that. “Celebrate in the Park!” takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miller Park Art Complex, 2700 Front St. Adults and kids will enjoy activities and workshops (during the early part of the day), performances from area dance and poetry groups, and live music from the bands Q-VO and LUVTAXI. Highlights of the day include a Danza Azteca blessing ceremony from White Hawks/Halcones Blancos and the special honoring of two powerful figures in the Latino community: Retired Sacramento State professor of theater and dance Manuel Pickett and Estella Sanchez, director of Sol Collective, a community of activists, educators and volunteers who work to create community empowerment through art, education and technology. Tickets to Celebrate in the Park! are $8, with children 12 and younger getting in for free. For more information about the event, log onto larazagaleriaposada.org.
