The Amgen Tour of California finished in Sacramento in front of the state Capitol on May 16, after starting 104 miles away in Nevada City. An estimated 100,000 fans lined the streets of downtown Sacramento to watch the professional cyclists—including Team RadioShack riders Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer (three-time defending champion of the Amgen Tour of California)—speed toward the finish. British cycling star Mark Cavendish of Team HTC-Columbia took the race win in a dramatic sprint, but not til after several of the riders crashed on the chaotic run in.
