French Films This Weekend

Posted on June 16

Bust out the beret—the Sacramento French Film Festival is back in town. The eclectic 2010 program includes premieres of the newest films by France’s best filmmakers, as well as rare classics and short films. Don’t speak French? Don’t fret. The films will be presented in French with English subtitles. Here’s a snippet of what the festival has to offer:

  • The 9th Sacramento French Film Festival will kick off with In the Beginning (A l'origine) by Xavier Giannoli, a drama based on the true story of a small crook who built a piece of highway leading nowhere
  • Please, Please Me! (Fais moi plaisir!) is a comedy by Emmanuel Mouret
  • Skirt Day (La Journée de la jupe) by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld, starring Isabelle Adjani, who received her fifth César for best actress for her role in this drama about a teacher who holds her class hostage after discovering a gun in one of her students’ backpacks
  •  French Kissers (Les Beaux Gosses) is a John Hughes-style comedy that will enthrall anyone who has ever been a teenager
  •  OSS 117, Lost in Rio (OSS 117, Rio ne répond plus), the sequel to the spy-spoof that opened the 2008 Sacramento French Film Festival

The 9th Sacramento French Film Festival is taking place June 18–27 at the Crest Theatre. Learn more here.
