Do you Tivo "JEOPARDY!"? Do you consider the 1981 "Genus Edition" of Trivial Pursuit to the only true version of the game? Does your reading list include world almanacs, back issues of Mental Floss magazine, and foreign atlases? Do you frequently check the blog of Ken Jennings, quiz show champion?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you, my friend, may be a trivia addict. If you’re looking to try your mental might against some of the same ilk, you should test your skills at one of the many pub quizzes around town. My favorite two are:
Sundays at Streets of London
Quizmaster Ken Koch puts up with no funny business from the usually rowdy crowd at Streets, yet his tongue-in-cheek approach keeps bringing teams back week after week. The quiz has 30 general knowledge questions ranging from ancient history to celebrity gossip. Groups of up to six players allowed. Winner gets a $30 gift card.
Details: Sundays, 9 p.m., Streets of London, 1804 J St., Sacramento.
(Quizzes are also held at Streets Folsom and West Sacramento locations at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.)
Wednesdays at The Shack
Dan Scott puts together a tough but rewarding quiz at the popular East Sac hangout. The quiz consists of 25 questions ranging from Simpsons quotes to zoology. The quiz has two rounds, and each round’s winner gets a free round of drinks. Teams of up to six are allowed.
Details: Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m., The Shack, 5201 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento
