Don your favorite red sweater or shirt this Friday as part of National Wear Red Day. The event calls attention to the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign, which educates women about the dangers of heart disease as well as what they can do to prevent it. A sobering statistic: According to the Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States with stroke coming in at No. 3. It’s serious stuff, for sure, but some fun can be had while getting the word out. Check out Wear Red Day at Arden Fair mall on Friday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and enjoy live entertainment and free health screenings courtesy of Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute. While there, take part of a casting call to find the next group of women representing the AHA’s Go Red for Women campaign. Trainers from California Family Fitness will show ways to boost your exercise intake while representatives from Jiffy Lube will be handing out savings books. The event includes a silent auction—as well as a children’s play area, so Mom can shop! For more information, log onto http://www.ardenfair.com/events.asp?id=41432&start=2/5/2010 or goredforwomen.org.
