This Sunday at 3:25 p.m., the New Orleans Saints play the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV—where will you park yourself to watch the action (and the commercials!)? If you don’t already have plans at your buddy’s place, many local places are hosting the event, and offering some specials during the day. Take your pick!
The Corner Bar at 57th and J streets has four huge flat screen TVs in the front room and two in the back, and is giving Super Bowl-goers specials, giveaways and a special half-time happy hour. Any style Corner wings (garlic teriyaki, pesto, hot, mild, honey-apricot and BBQ) are $9 for one pound and $15 for two pounds; the Super Sampler (with jalapeno poppers, fried shrimp, buffalo wings and onion rings) is $13; and certain drinks (Bloody Marys, Hurricanes and shots of Patron) are $5 all day.
The party at Azukar Lounge, at 16th and J streets, starts at noon. It has seven large-screen TVs, $3 beers and all-you-can-eat, made-to-order sushi. Cost is $20 to attend; visit the website, or call (916) 317-7828 to order your tickets!
Riverside Clubhouse, 2633 Riverside Blvd., has no cover, appetizer and drink specials, and raffle prizes will be handed out during each quarter of the game.
There’s no cover at MVP Sports Grill at 16th and Capitol either, and they’re serving up a sampler platter with popcorn chicken, popcorn shrimp, wings, mozzarella sticks and nachos for $15.95, in addition to Jack Daniels specials during the event—$5 Jack shots, $7 Gentleman’s Jack shots, $8 single barrel Jack shots and more.
Hoppy Brewing Company, at 6300 Folsom Blvd., has HD TVs and “Hoppy” Hour pricing during the game, which includes $3.50 pints, $12 pitchers and half price appetizers including a 15-bean chili and an appetizer sampler. No cover here, but if you want to host the game at the brewery for 20-25 of your buddies, Hoppy does have a private room with its own TV available.
If you feel like venturing up Highway 50, Mark’s Sports Bar & Grill in Folsom has no cover charge and plenty of food and drink specials. “The Super Bowl Party at Mark’s Sports Bar & Grill is unlike any other!” says Webmaster Rock Star Gary. This party also has lots of raffles and giveaways, and you can watch the game on eight TVs with stereo sound, inside and outside the bar. For more information, call (916) 357-5567. And Gary says, “Be sure to tell ‘em Rock Star Gary sent ya!”
