When you travel to other cities, museums often are a must-see—yet when was the last time you visited Sutter's Fort, the Governor's Mansion or the California State Railroad Museum right here at home? On Saturday, Feb. 6, you can play tourist in your own town during the 12th annual Sacramento Museum Day, when 26 museums throughout the region open their doors—for free—from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admission at 4 p.m.). There’s even a free shuttle to get you to and from most of the sites, which include everything from the schoolhouse and military museums in Old Sac to the Historic City Cemetery on Broadway to the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town in William Land Park. Shuttles take off from The California Museum at 10th and O streets, so park your car nearby (watch for garages offering free parking)—or walk, bike or take Regional Transit—then hop on a shuttle.
