Craft beer and cider lovers, rejoice: your favorite beverages will be celebrated in grand style during Sacramento Beer Week, which takes place from Feb. 27 through March 9.
According to Dan Scott, executive director of Sacramento Beer Week, more than 100 breweries, pubs, restaurants and grocers throughout the region will participate in hundreds of events featuring craft beer and cider. Mark your calendars for two “cornerstone” events:
• Thursday, Feb. 27: The California Auto Museum will host the Sacramento Brewers Showcase, which features over 25 breweries from the Sacramento Valley “and beyond,” including Bike Dog Brewing Company, Loomis Basin Brewing Company and Track 7 Brewing Company. VIP tickets cost $50 (get into the event one hour ahead of the general crowds—hence, more tasting time); $40 general admission; $35 for Auto Museum members; and $10 for the designated drivers. Ticket purchase includes unlimited tasting from 6-9 p.m., a free tasting glass souvenir and live music performed by The Bathtub Gins (there will also be food available for additional purchase).
• Sunday, March 9: The Capitol Beer Fest, featuring approximately 100 craft breweries (many from the Sacramento region), will take place in the afternoon on Capitol Mall. Hungry event-goers will be able to visit an array of mobile food vendors, thanks to participation by SactoMoFo, and live music will be performed by Rachel Steele & Road 88. VIP tickets ($65 if purchased before event; $70 day of event) allow guests “a personalized experience with the brewers” and an exclusive VIP hour from 1-2 p.m. with access to limited edition beers. General admission ($40 pre-event; $45 day of event) is from 2-5 p.m.; and tickets for designated drivers (who get their very own garden area with non-alcoholic drinks and light snacks) are $10.
See the Beer Week website for event details and links to purchase tickets.
I stopped in to Rocklin’s Boneshaker Public House today, and excited staff are gearing up for Beer Week. If you’re a craft beer aficionado, Boneshaker is a great place to visit for a dizzying array of both draft and bottled beers—and the kitchen cranks out some first-rate suds-friendly fare. Don’t miss the meatball sliders or the fabulous, spicy carnitas mac 'n' cheese, topped with sliced jalapeño peppers.
