I recently made the acquaintance of a showstopping, lip-smacking Petite Sirah, crafted by Rosenblum Cellars. The bouquet drew me in with its dense, lush ripe blackberry-Port aromas; and the first sip revealed a bold, concentrated red with great complexity, good tannin structure and a bright acidity. Sumptuous brambly, dark fruit flavors (predominantly ripe blackberry, though I also tasted blueberry, cassis and black plum) were married with lovely notes of peppery spice, licorice, cocoa, and a hint of mushroom-earthiness. This is a red you can confidently pair with grilled meats, sturdy stews, and more assertive ethnic cuisines (hint: try it with your favorite Greek dishes).
