Food Fun at the California State Fair

Posted on July 22

There’s still time to stuff yourself silly at the 161st Annual California State Fair, which runs through this Sunday, July 27. We visited this past weekend and gaped at the sheer number of food stands, selling everything from tacos, gourmet burgers and curly fries to gelato and (no kidding) deep-fried watermelon. We worked our way through a couple of crusty corndogs and massive smoked turkey legs before diving into fluffy poufs of cotton candy at the fair’s wonderful exhibit called “Sweet—California’s Tasty Journey” (Expo Center Building 5), which offers an entertaining “journey through the Rock Candy Mountain.” The family-friendly exhibit features candy-themed displays and hands-on activities, highlighting the California connection to a number of famous sweets.
