Cheese Conference Comes to Town

Posted on July 22

Cheese aficionados, take note: a conference showcasing your favorite nibble is coming to town on Tuesday, July 29. The American Cheese Society will bring together 1,000 industry leaders at the Sacramento Convention Center through Friday, Aug. 1 to “celebrate, collaborate, learn from one another, and sample great products.” There are a wide array of fascinating learning and tasting opportunities available (sessions include “Comb, Sweet Comb: Cheese and Honey,” and “A Cheddar and a Triple Crème Walk into a Bar”) and onsite registration is still available (nonmember rates include a 2014 ACS individual membership). For more information about the conference, visit the Society’s website.

If the idea of cheese education sounds appealing but you’d rather participate on a smaller scale, consider visiting the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op on Saturday, July 26, from 5-6 pm, when the store hosts a “celebratory cheesy event” featuring Gordon Edgar, cheesemonger at San Francisco's Rainbow Grocery. Edgar, respected as a champion for small farmers and artisan cheesemakers, will lead a lively discussion about cheese and a tasting of some delectable  American cheeses. Signed copies of Gordon's book, Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge, will also be available. The event costs $20 and includes a cheese and wine pairing. For more information, visit the Co-op’s website
