Honey fans, mark your calendars: UC Davis is now selling tickets for a very special fundraiser on Feb. 8 that showcases your favorite sweet condiment. A celebration of the beginning of the honeybee’s season, the event features a multi-course, honey-inspired meal embellished with sparkling mead cocktails, wine and a mead flight guided by Darrell Corti. Live music and a silent auction are also part of the fun. Intriguing menu items include Shiitake mushroom soup “shots” with a spicy honey spray; roasted lamb shank with dried fruits and rosemary-infused sage honey; and mixed navel and blood oranges over winter greens with tupelo honey vinaigrette. There’s even a selection of cheeses paired with honeycomb.
Festivities take place in the Robert Mondavi Institute’s Sensory Building foyer from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and cost $125 per person or $1250 for table of 8. The fundraiser benefits the Honey and Pollination Center at UC Davis, which focuses, through education and research, on the importance of honey and pollination to the wellbeing of consumers.
