I encountered an intriguing and powerful red recently crafted by local Bogle Vineyards. The wine, called “Phantom,” is composed of old vine Zinfandel blended with Petite Sirah and old vine Mourvedre. Lusty and robust, it offers layers of dark fruit: black plums and cherries, blackberries and black currants, plus an enticing touch of cocoa and oak and a lingering violet/raspberry finish. Pair this lively red with pepperoni pizza, Italian sausage, leg of lamb, lasagna and hearty winter beef stew.
