If you’re a fan of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, the British star of Food Network’s “The Naked Chef,” you’ll be pleased to know that he recently rolled into town in an impressive traveling food classroom called the Big Rig Teaching Kitchen. A component of his Food Revolution campaign, which “is about saving our health through good food and essential cooking skills,” the Big Rig Teaching Kitchen is in the midst of a 40-week teaching tour in California – and will be located at Sacramento Charter High School in Oak Park from Jan. 21 to Feb. 7.
Available slots for free cooking classes (taught by chefs trained by Jamie Oliver), offered from Jan. 23 through Feb. 6, have already filled up. Lucky attendees (who can be as young as 7 years old) will learn how to make nutritious "real food" dishes and will be provided with free take-home recipes. If you’d like to see the Big Rig in action, it’s located at 2315 34th St. For details of the Big Rig’s local visit, check out Jamie Oliver’s Kitchen Teaching Tour website.
