Tomato lovers, take note: On Saturday, August 11th, Soil Born Farms will host an heirloom tomato tasting from 8am to noon at their American River Ranch in Rancho Cordova. Varieties available for nibbling (plucked straight from the farm’s fields) include Aunt Ruby's German Green, Big Beef, Brandywine, Purple Cherokee and Sungold. Attendees can even take home a whole 10-pound case of heirlooms for $25. For more information on the tomato tasting and all Soil Born Farms upcoming events, check out its website.
(If you’re trying to figure out what to do with your own tomato bounty this summer, consider attending “Summer in a Jar: Preserving the Tomato Harvest,” a class to be held at Soil Born Farms on Saturday, September 15th from 9am to 12pm. Participants will learn how to “safely and deliciously” preserve; and will prepare canned whole tomatoes, tomato jam, and spicy tomato salsa).
