I’ve been a fan of Maalouf’s Taste of Lebanon for years. This friendly, family-owned restaurant plates up consistently flavorful, very fresh Middle Eastern fare. One of my favorite menu items is the “foul muddamas,” a lovely, chunky fava bean spread embellished with lavish amounts of garlic and brightened with fresh lemon juice. Served warm, this luscious appetizer is accompanied by sliced onions and triangles of just-baked pita bread – a terrific way to begin a Lebanese feast. Tip: When you do visit Maalouf’s, make sure to save room for an order of the restaurant’s flaky, perfumey (and crafted-on-the-premises) baklava – the last time I visited, I was lucky enough to get a few pieces that had just come out of the oven.
