Try It: Locally-Produced Dessert Wines

Posted on December 6

Picturesque Amador County produces some fabulous wines. While you often hear of the region’s award-winning, food-friendly red and white table wines, there’s also a handful of sweet dessert wines being crafted in Amador County that are well worth seeking out. Two in particular that I like are the Renwood Orange Muscat and the Terra D’Oro Zinfandel Port – terrific wines to have on hand when entertaining guests. They’re the perfect after-dinner quaff, and can also be thoughtfully paired with dessert.

Renwood Orange Muscat
Composed of 80% Orange Muscat and 20% Muscat Canelli grapes, this luscious, sweet wine is exotically fruity and full-flavored, with hints of quince, melon and citrus. But it’s the fragrance that will really knock your socks off – take a big, hungry whiff of its tantalizing, floral- tropical bouquet.

Terra d'Oro Zinfandel Port
I’m crazy about Terra d'Oro’s Zinfandel Port, a lush, complex fortified wine made from late-picked grapes from four different vintages. Bursting with deep, intense flavors of berries (cassis, cherry, blackberry) with nuances of chocolate, coffee, and raisins, this decadent, delicious wine is electrifying when paired with dark chocolate.
