After a chaotic week, I was ready to toss back a well-made (and generously portioned) cocktail. So last night we headed out to hip Lounge on 20 in midtown and ordered two of the bar’s handcrafted libations – a marvelously refreshing cucumber gimlet, and the soothing, citrusy Governor’s Mansion, enlivened with honey and lemon juice. I had a roasted chicken at home for dinner, but we caved and spent a gleeful hour instead working our way through a number of the Lounge’s small plates. They were all tasty, but the two knockouts of the evening were the crispy blocks of deep-fried mac ‘n cheese (made with sharp New York white cheddar and a dash of white truffle oil) and the ginger, garlic and cilantro-marinated shrimp skewers, placed atop a sweet and wonderfully complementary orange preserve sauce.
