My taste buds got a marvelous and unexpected gift on Friday night. We visited East West Junction, a small family-owned restaurant specializing in Indian and Pakistani food – and I can say without hesitation that it was one of the most electrifying meals I’ve had in the region in the past year. The lamb boti kabob (tandoori oven-roasted boneless lamb cubes) may have been served up on flimsy paper plates, but the meat was unbelievably tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of heat; the crusty, fragrant chicken biryani (note: only available Fri-Sun) was redolent of cardamom, and the Lahori choley (thick chickpea stew) was an exotic, hearty, and delicious vegetarian option. We gobbled as much of it as we could, then took the rest home (and polished it off for breakfast the next morning). Foodies, my advice: Run, don’t walk, to East West Junction.
