I had the opportunity to check out the brand-new Selland’s Market-Cafe in El Dorado Hills Town Center before it opened earlier this week. For those of you not familiar with Selland’s, it’s an upscale cafe offering a selection of hot and cold entrees: everything from stick-to-your ribs meatloaf to a light and healthy couscous salad, as well as made-to-order sandwiches, pizzas and any number of sides (such as the decadent macaroni and cheese topped with bread crumbs). Think comfort food, but with a gourmet twist. If it’s your first visit (or even if it’s not), you might want to order a few items with a friend and sample. Pair your meal with a glass of wine (or share a bottle) or a beer. Whatever you do, make sure you save room for dessert. I felt like a kid in a candy store trying to decide which to choose of the items beautifully displayed in the dessert cases. After much debating, I finally decided on the Dream Bar (with chocolate chips, pecans and coconut) and a Cake Bite (chocolate cake with a “hint” of peanut butter). The restaurant’s patio overlooks the Town Center’s lake and fountain. It would be a great place to sit on a warm summer night, though we saw a number of people braving the chill and dining outside on Friday evening. Heat lamps—and our mild winter—made it a palatable option.
Selland’s is located at 4370 Town Center Blvd., Suite 120, El Dorado Hills; (916) 932-5025.
