First Bite: Spin Burger Bar

Posted on February 23

I’m a fan of the new Spin Burger Bar, whose previous incarnation - Bistro 33 Midtown – left me a bit cold. Owned by intrepid restauranteurs (and brothers) Fred and Matt Haines, Spin has an entertaining bicycle theme (check out the stationary bikes at the back of the restaurant) and a great lineup of imaginative, robust burgers. Selections range from the popular lamb and hot Italian sausage burger, embellished with mango curry sauce and Brie cheese; to the fabulous, thick buffalo burger, with lots of garlicky mayonnaise and melted Tilamook cheddar cheese. Traditionalists will appreciate the kitchen’s bulky, greasy, and very satisfying Spin cheeseburger, a half-pound beef patty piled high with lettuce, onion and tomato slices. Parents: bring the kids – the walls are covered with blackboards, and young artists are encouraged to grab some chalk and get creative.
