Wine of the Week: Fetzer 2010 Crimson Red Blend

I made the acquaintance of a delicious 2010 red blend recently from Fetzer Vineyards called “Crimson.” A captivating and well-balanced quaff, it’s composed of Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. Spicy and surprisingly jammy, this well-balanced red offers lots of forward ripe brambly flavors (raspberry, blackberry, black currant) with zingy acidity and a slow, powerful finish that leaves some tobacco and leather notes lingering enticingly on the palate. This engaging blend would work well with grilled sausage, venison, and barbecued ribs; or pair it with dry Monterey Jack cheese and a rustic ratatouille.
