If you find yourself in the mood for a lively, spicy Gewürztraminer, reach for a bottle of Castello di Amorosa’s 2011 "Dry" Mendocino County Gewürz. I had the pleasure of sampling this vivacious wine recently while visiting the Calistoga winery – an astonishing and faithful recreation of a 13th-century Tuscan castle.
I was tantalized by the wine’s perfumey aromas of rose petals, citrus, cinnamon and lychee, and its complex, vibrant flavors included mango, honeysuckle and baked pear, with a zesty hint of cloves and cinnamon. This lovely Gewürztraminer would be excellent paired with spicy, full-flavored Asian cuisine, curries, sausages, and a range of cheeses.
