I encountered a real palate-dazzler yesterday at Source Global Tapas Restaurant. This attractive Granite Bay establishment, owned and operated by longtime local chef Irie Gengler, is located in the digs formerly occupied by Toast restaurant in the Quarry Ponds shopping center. The palate-dazzler was Gengler’s sublime kabocha squash soup, spattered with rich pumpkin seed oil and garnished with diced chives. The soup offered a phenomenal depth of flavor, and I found myself slurping it up so eagerly that my eight year old daughter cast me an annoyed look. “You always tell me not to eat that fast,” she admonished. Other tasty brunch items at this small plate-centric restaurant included a silky portion of scrambled eggs with a scrumptious fresh chorizo sausage; and two plump Niman Ranch beef sliders, accompanied by shockingly orange – and sweetly delectable – sweet potato fries.
